Jai Prithvi Bahadur Singh of Bajhang Nepal was a passionate advocate of world peace and brotherhood. He was a preacher and a good thinker of Humanism. He was born as the fifty-fifth prince of Bajhang in 1934 B.S.He was graduated from Calcutta University. He also started the publication of Gorakhapatra. Jai Prithvi raised the world attention for the need of Humanism. His movement on Humanism struck a fresh note of peace and brought solace to humanity. He was simple living and high thinking. He died in 1997 B.S. (the first newspaper in Nepal) in 1899, established the first Nepali language school, and brought-out many books for Students.

Early life

Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh was born in the royal family of Bajhang district in 1934 B.S. He was the eldest son in his family. His father was King Bikram Bahadur Singh and mother was Queen Rudra Kumari Singh. He was also the fifty-fifth prince of Bajhang. The Ranas were his maternal uncles. Jay Prithvi Bahadur Singh was profoundly influenced by his father's religious activities. He used to believe in simple living from childhood. He married Rani Khageshwari Lakshmi Devi, the daughter of Chandra Shumsher.

Education

Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh started his early education at the age of eight in the royal palace. He came to Kathmandu and studied in Durbar High school in Thapathali. In 1952 BS, he passed his Matriculation Examination from Kolkata. Then, he went to Allahabad for higher studies. He studies in Allahabad for one year. He graduated from Calcutta University. He spent most of his time in studying and writing books. He also gained knowledge in sociology, political science, law, philosophy, and literature.

Struggling Life

He visited Europe in 1965 B.S, with his father in law, Chandra Shumsher. He was impressed by the development and system of government of Europe. He was against discrimination and exploitation. He believed in gender equality and was against the caste system. He wrote against the existing administration in Nepal. He wrote three books on humanism in English. He established an organization in 1991B.S and worked for the welfare of the people. He travelled to different countries like Egypt, Switzerland, France, the U.S.A. Japan, China for World peace. While he was working for the Humanistic Movement in Nepal, the First Great War (1914-1918) broke out which shocked and the countries lost their grip on stability. The Prime minister Chandra Shumsher was against the act of Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh. So, he was dismissed from his post of editor and manager of Gorkhapatra. He was also banished from the kingdom. He left Nepal and settle in Banglore, India.

Contributions

He established the first Nepali language school. He also brought out many books for students in 1901 A.D. He wrote different books, on various subjects. Some of the books written by him are Aksharank Shiksha, Balbodh, Gyanmala, Bhugol Bidhya, Padartha, Tatwavivek, Sresta Bodh, Shiksha Darpan, Prakriti Vyakaran, etc. He wanted to open a school for the orphans in Nepal but was not allowed by the Ranas. He wrote different books. These books helped the people to achieve minimum qualifications to get government jobs in the post of officers and clerks. He is also known as the Father of Education in Nepal. He has made a great contribution to the development and expansion of Education. He opened one such school in Myanmar called the "Jaya Prithvi Institute". He was nominated as the Ambassador for Nepal at Calcutta in 1902-1905 A.D. He also published the history of Japan in 1907 and visited England as the Chief Editor of Gorakhapatra in 1908. He was also honored by Emperor Edward VII with the title of honorary Colonelship. The first Humanistic Club was established by Jai Prithvi in 1928. His publications include Humanism, Volume I-III.

Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh was a patriot who sacrificed his kingdom and comfortable life for the sake of the people. He was a passionate advocate of world peace and brotherhood. He took his last breath on Ashwin1, 1997 B.S at the age of sixty-one in Bangalore.
