|I am the Artist.← It asserts YES. It is an affirmative(positive) sentence.|
|I do not play if i don't like the script.← It asserts NO. It is a negative sentence.|
|Have you ever played the Negative role?← It asks a question. It seeks an answer in YES or NO. It is an interrogative sentence. It is also called a Yes/No question.|
Grammer Study: How to Transfer Sentences?
|Follow the following steps to transform sentences:|
|Does the sentence have an auxiliary verb?|
He will learn to dance
He dance well.
Insert 'not' after the auxiliary verb to make negative.
He will not learn to dance.
Is the main verb v1, v2 or v5?
He dance well.
Keep the auxiliary verb before the subject to make interrogative.
Will he not learn to dance?
Insert 'do not/did not/does not' after the subject to make negative.
He do not dance well.
Do he dance well?
If there is an auxiliary verb in a sentence, do not change the form of a main verb while transforming the sentence.
He is singing a song.
He has sung a song.
He is not singing a song.
He has not sung a song.
Is he singing a song?
Has he sung a song?
Always change the forms of verbs when you add or remove 'did/does' to transform sentences.
He wrote a letter. (affirmative)
Did he write a letter? (interrogative)
He did not write a letter. (negative)
Does he play football? (interrogative)
He plays football. (affirmative)
She did not write a letter. (negative)
She wrote a letter. (affirmative)
Some More Rules
1. We usually change affirmative imperatives into negative as follows:
Verb + .......... Shut the window.
Do not + verb + ....... Don't shut the window
Let + object + verb + ....... Let her dance.
Let + object + not + verb + .... Let her not dance.
2. These words change while transforming sentences.
Some-any already-yet too- either
and So- and either several- any a lot of - much/many
He has already danced.
I wrote a letter and so did my sister.
He has not danced yet. Has he danced yet?
I didn't write a letter and neither did my sister.
3. Only changing these words, we can change the sentences into negative. We don't need to take the help of 'not'.
Always - never
either..or.. - neither... nor....
some (begining) - no
some of /any of (begining) - none of
Reeta always wears a red dress. Reeta never wears a red dress.
Somebody broke the vase. Nobody break the vase?
Some of them are in the hall. None of them are in the hall.
4. The parallei structure in sentences take the same forms of auxiliary verbs.
She likes oranges and so does her sister. He is not a dancer. Neither is her mother.
I can play basketball but she can't. I like Chicken pizza but they do not.
5. Common errors:
|He does not eat pizza.||He does not eat any pizza.|
|Does Saroja sings songs?||Does Saroja sing songs?|
|Have you not wrote a letter?||Have you not written a letter?|
|Renu liked meat but sapana doesn't.||Renu liked meat but Sapana didn't.|
