Our country, Nepal is a landlocked country. It is situated between India and China. It is also known as the small Country situated at the foothills of the Himalayas. There are more than hundred races of people live here.It is one of the richest countries in the world in biodiversity. It is also rich in hydropower. Nepal is divided into three ecological zones. The Himalayan regions, the Hilly region, and the Terai region. The Himalayan region covers 15% of land area, the Hilly region has 68% and the Terai region has 17% of land area. It is divided into 5 development regions, 14 zones and 75 districts. Nepal has nearly 3 million of the population. Nepalese people speak different languages. There are about 123 languages spoken in Nepal. They are Maithali, Bhojpuri, Magar, Limbu, Rai, Gurung, Limbu, Sherpa, Tamang, Tharu, Newari etc. All these are the national languages. Nepali is the language of the nation. People eat different foods, dress differently and celebrate different festivals. In spite of these diversities, there is a mutual understanding and respect among the people. There is unity in diversity.
The different communities live in the different parts of the country. Kathmandu valley is the traditional home of the Newars. The heritage of art and architecture of Nepal is largely in the contribution of these people. Sherpas live in the high hills of the mountain. Similarly, Tharus, Bhojpuri and Rajbansi people live in Terai. Although, there is the mutual co-operation and understanding among the people. All types religion of Nepal gets equal respect from the people. The people who follow Hindu religion are in great number. Besides this, Buddhism is another popular religion of Nepal. The founder of Buddhism is Gautam Buddha who was born in Lumbini, Nepal. He is famous as the Light of Asia. There are many followers of Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism and Kirat religion. Every religion has its own values and norms. People of every religion can celebrate their festivals according to their culture and traditions.
Nepal is also rich in natural resources. There are more than 6000 big and small rivers in Nepal. There are several lakes which flow throughout the country. Different types of forests are found in different regions of Nepal. It occupies about 37% of the total land of Nepal. There are many kinds of animals in the forests of Nepal. Forests provide food and shelter for these animals. There are about 800 types of birds found in Nepal. The rare one-horned rhino, wild buffalo (area), red panda, Royal Bengal Tiger etc. are found in our country.
