Servicing departure room

A departure room refers to the room which has been left by guest and handed the key to the hotel by settling the bills. This room is not occupied by the guest. A room attendant usually attends departure room after attending the vacant room.

The step by step procedures of cleaning departure room are:

  1. Ensure that the room doesn’t have DND card and the door isn’t double locked.
  2. Knock the door and announce “housekeeping” in spite the fact the room is departure room.
  3. Open the door, switch on the light and open the curtains and windows.
  4. Check for any materials left or damaged by the guest.
  5. Check for any maintenance requirement and report it to the maintenance department.
  6. Remove the trays and trolley. Empty the trash in the trash hamper.
  7. Remove the soiled linen from bed and bathroom by shaking each individually to ensure that no guest valuables are trapped within the folds.
  8. Take the fresh linen and make the bed.
  9. Clean and disinfect the refrigerator, telephone, and other electrical equipment.
  10. Clean the entire surface in single circular motion with lint free duster.
  11. Clean the bathroom entirely.
  12. Replace stationery and guestroom supplies as prescribed by management.
  13. Dust closet, hangers, shelves. Replenish laundry bags and lists.
  14. Carry out the vacuum cleaning and rearrange the furniture.
  15. Close the windows and curtains and switch off the light.
  16. At last, close the door and update the room report.

Servicing vacant room

The room which hasn’t been occupied by the previous guest departed from the room is called the vacant room. This room shouldn’t be cleaned properly as it has already been done after the departure of the guest. However, if the room remains vacant for the long period of time it should be attended like a departure room.

The step by step procedures of attending vacant room are:

  1. Check the light, air conditions, T.V. channel, telephone, and refrigerator.
  2. Wipe the surface and dust in single circular motion.
  3. Check the hot and cold water supply in the bathroom.
  4. Flush the water closet, wipe it and make it dry.
  5. Check for any supplies required for the vacant room.

Evening turn down service

Occupied room refers to the room where the guest has been currently staying. The occupied room is normally attended twice a day. At first, it is attended in the morning and second time it is attended in an evening. Which is also called ETDS (Evening Turn-Down Service)? During this time, the room is made ready for the guest to retire to bed.

The step by step procedures of cleaning departure room are:

  1. Ensure that the room doesn’t have DND card and the door isn’t double locked.
  2. Knock the door and announce “housekeeping”.
  3. Open the door, switch on the light, switch off the AC and open the curtains and windows.
  4. Check for any maintenance requirement and report it to the maintenance department.
  5. Remove the trays and trolley. Empty the trash in the trash hamper.
  6. Remove the soiled linen from bed and bathroom by shaking each individually to ensure that no guest valuables are trapped within the folds.
  7. Take the fresh linen and make the bed by following appropriate bed making procedure.
  8. Arrange the guest belongings and articles and newspaper.
  9. Clean the entire surface in single circular motion with lint free duster. Use dust pan to collect unwanted dust and soils.
  10. Clean the bathroom entirely. Replenish bathroom linen and supplies.
  11. Replace stationery and guestroom supplies as prescribed by management.
  12. Dust closet, hangers, shelves. Replenish laundry bags and lists.
  13. Carry out the vacuum cleaning and rearrange the furniture.
  14. Close the windows and curtains switch on AC and adjust to minimum position and switch off the light.
  15. At last, close the door and update the room report.

Evening turn down service

It is the special service provided in the evening. It is the second time service of the day for the occupied room.

The procedure of evening turn down service is:

  1. Ascertain the room and follow an appropriate process of entering an occupied room.
  2. Remove the guest articles from bed. Remove bed cover from a bed and keep it in a convenient position.
  3. Turn the blankets along with the bed sheet and the night spread and fold them in a triangular shape towards the headboard side for the guest to slide in.
  4. Place the articles at the proper place.
  5. Place the breakfast doorknob card or room service menu card on the bed.
  6. Check all the units of the room in general.
  7. Replenish supplies and check the bathroom if necessary.
  8. Place the slipper at the foot of the bed.
  9. Pull the heavy curtain and turn on bedside lamp for welcoming purpose.
  10. Close the door and update room report.

Bed making refers to the preparing the bed with the help of required material a room attendant should be able to finish making single bed within the maximum of 3 minutes and double bed within the maximum of 7 minutes.

The materials required for bed making are:

  1. Bedding: Bed/ cot, mattress, pillow, blanket/ quilt.
  2. Bed linen: Bed sheet, pillow cover, mattress pad, bedcover.

Bed making procedure:

The step by step procedures of bed making are:

  1. Remove the soiled linen by shaking out each individually to ensure that no guest valuables are trapped within the folds.
  2. Check the mattress protector and change if it is dirty.
  3. Place the bottom sheet on mattress protector and stuck in the headboard and footboard side.
  4. Miter the bottom sheet evenly along each corner of bed.
  5. Place the second sheet with reverse side up on the top of the bed.
  6. Place the blanket on the top of the second sheet about 6 inches away from the headboard.
  7. Place the third sheet over the blanket.
  8. Tuck in the second sheet, blanket, and third sheet together with miter corner on each side of the bed. Make sure that the blanket and sheets are tucked in properly at the foot and sides of bed.
  9. Place the pillows making the open side of the pillow opposite to the entrance on the wall side.
  10. Place the bedspread and make sure that the patterns are smooth.
  11. Finally, give a glance and update the room report.
