An input device is the medium through which data and instruction are entered into the computer. They are:

  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
The devices which are used to produce or display result of processed data is known as output devices. Their types are.
i. Soft copy output device - monitor.
ii. Hard copy output device - printer.
CPU is an electric brain to computer which process and controls all the activity of computer system. The section of CPU are:
  • Control unit
  • Arithmetic and logic unit
  • Memory unit

The computer memory is a temporary storage area. It holds the data and instructions that the Central Processing Unit (CPU) needs.

A basic computer consists of 4 components. They are as follows:

  1. An input Device:An input device is a hardware or peripheral device used to send data to a computer. An input device allows users to communicate and feed instructions and data to computers for processing, display, storage and/or transmission. Examples keyboards, mouse etc.
  2. A CPU:CPU is the abbreviation for central processing unit. Sometimes referred to simply as the central processor, but more commonly called processor, the CPU is the brains of the computer where most calculations take place.
  3. An output devices:An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system which converts the electronically generated information into human-readable form. Examples monitor, speakers, etc.
  4. Memory:The computer memory is a temporary storage area. It holds the data and instructions that the Central Processing Unit (CPU) needs.
