The qualities of the Prince

The qualities of the prince

Machiavelli’s instructions to the prince are devoid of any high sounding moralizing or any encouragement to be good as a matter of principle. Machiavelli recommends a very practical course of action for the prince: secure power, secure it by practical, simple and effective means. He does not recommend tyranny but he also supports questionable means that will achieve the final end of becoming and remaining the prince. Machiavelli believes that there is a conflict between the ends and the means use o achieve them and he certainly does not fret over the possible problems that may accompany the use of unpleasant means.
