Subject: Social Studies
Social problems have drawn the attention of many aware people. Finding a solution to social problems is a concern of many people including those involved in social welfare. Mr. Bishnu a journalist, and Mrs. Anjana, a social worker, are talking about the solutions to social problems. Here is the main part of their conversation.
Bishnu: We have had so many social problems. They have hampered our development and civilization. How can they be solved, Mrs. Anjana?
Anjana: It is essential to find out the root cause of problems. We should know that we have created these problems and nature has nothing to do with it. If we detect the actual factors behind the problems, we can find measures for their permanent solution.
Bishnu: Would you please describe those main factors?
Anjana: Our social problems have been caused by various factors. Gender inequality and dowry system are the results of the male-dominated social structure while problems related to class, caste, language, and religion were caused due to our feudal political system that favored and fostered only certain factions of the society. A particular caste, a particular language, and a particular religion were always patronized while the mass of the rest was neglected and discouraged.
Bishnu: But Madam, the situation has changed with the establishment of democracy, hasn't it? As we know that the state has given up such discriminatory and exploitative rules and regulations and norms and values. Doesn't it improve the situations?
Anjana: Of course. With the amendments in the constitutional provisions and other legal documents, substantial changes have taken place on the state looks upon the Nepalese society. But don't forget that legal management alone doesn't suffice. It is very important to put those managements into full practice, which is not so easy. Their full implementation is possible only when you, me and everyonehave a strong commitment and motivation towards our common goal.
Bishnu: What practical steps, in your opinion, should be taken for the complete implementations and arousing public awareness then?
Anjana: The government should legislate rules and launch program to raise public awareness. People should be informed about the hazards of social problems as well as their role towards the solution. Radio, TV, newspapers and magazines, clubs, etc can be very vital. Professionals, political cadres, non-governmental organizations and civil society, on the whole, can contribute a lot.
Bishnu: Will everything be okay then?
Anjana: Bishnu, it certainly takes time. Social transformation cannot be achieved overnight. History shows that the many societies could get it only at the cost of many precious lives. If we work towards uprooting the causes, the solution will be permanent and sustainable. Those who are committed to their abolition must make others ready for the same. The action is important. You and me, who are dedicated that these things should not be let to continue should strive honestly, and set examples & encourage others.
Bishnu: Thank you for your elaborate and valuable ideas.
Anjana: Nice to meet you.

Public awareness is very important to solve social problems. Raising public awareness is not telling public what to do but it explains issues and disseminates knowledge to people so they can make their own decisions. Because of which people can understand the problems and find their solutions and therefore solve it.
Yes, social problems are created socially and need to be tackled socially. It is not that these social problems was self created but we social beings created it. We were the one who discriminated women, we didn't respected them, we abused them, we asked dowry, etc. If we never did this it could never have become a social problem and now that it has become a social problem we should solve them socially. We can solve them by many ways such as creating awareness, forcing government to make strict news not only this we should not take or give dowry. By this we can solve and stop social problems too.
I can solve the rooted social problems of my society through the means of education and awareness.
The nation can maintain the peace, security and stable politics so that several problems cannot grow.
There is common prevalence of child labour in our society. Its main cause is poverty. For this, every sector should be prepared to reduce poverty. Poor children should be assisted form everywhere. There are national and international laws against child labour. Although the laws have been made, they are not executed in our country. However, the laws must be followed by everyone. To follow the rules, we should start from our home. In the name of child labour, there will be several seminars, gosthis, programmes but I suggest implementing laws very strictly.
