Effects of Environmental Degradation on Human Beings

Every living creature needs healthy environment. If the condition of the environment becomes worse or polluted, man, vegetation and all other living creatures also get affected. Men have unlimited desire s and they do different activities to fulfill them. If the area of forest decreases, we face the problems like landslide, floods, soil erosion etc.

Air pollution

Pollution means contamination in the surrounding. Unplanned settlement of the urban area has caused air pollution. The elements like sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, dust particles and other harmful things are responsible for air pollution. This creates many problems such as skin disease, throat and chest infection, respiratory problems, eye disease etc. Mainly air pollution affects the climate as a whole. Air pollution increases global warming which causes melting of snow, flood, landslide, soil erosion etc.

Water pollution

At present water pollution is a major problem in many countries including Nepal. The causes of water pollution are the unplanned urban settlement and the unsystematic disposal of waste, garbage and sewage from villages and towns in water sources. Similarly chemical materials released from factories and industries are also responsible for water pollution. Polluted water causes various infectious diseases like typhoid, cholera, dysentery etc.

Sound pollution

Loud and unpleasant sound coming out of different sources cause sound pollution. It hampers the environment and makes the surrounding unpleasant to live. Big and old vehicles, loud speakers, factories, industries, saw mills, rice mills, aeroplanes etc create sound pollution. Sound pollution disturbs the hearing capacity and affects the brain. Noise pollution develops health hazards like restlessness, high blood pressure, sleeplessness etc.
Effects of human activities on environment
All the creatures fulfill their basic needs from the nature. There is no difference between the basic needs of human being and other creatures. Many human activities can affect the environmental balance. In a short time human beings can destroy the forest easily by cutting down the trees which takes long time to come into the present form. Similarly, chemicals from industries pollute the air and water. Such polluted air and water affects the environment by raising various health hazards.

Environmental imbalance creates natural calamities like flood, landslide, creates natural calamities like flood, landslide, soil erosion, droughts and partial rainfall. Similarly, unsystematic use of natural resources increases pollution. Such degraded environment creates many infectious diseases which in turn impair our life.
This is the time of science and technology but their inventions are both useful and harmful. Such inventions have made our daily life easy. But, unfortunately people have started using them very carelessly for comfortable and happy life. It has increased the consumption of natural resources.
People through the garbage and waste products randomly. Such waste products cause various diseases to the living creatures. They also pollute the air, water and surrounding. Poisonous smoke and gases are found excessively in the air. Such substances are very harmful to all the living things. The experiment and use of scientific inventions and weapons add the active particles in the air, adversely affecting the living creatures including human beings.

Questions and Answers

The natural resources on which the people depend are:

  1. Water
  2. Air
  3. Forest
  4. Soil

The problems may happened in the environment due to environment degradation are:

  1. Air pollution
  2. Water pollution
  3. Sound pollution

Unwise human activities have created environmental degradation. Increase population needs the resources in same ratio. As a result, the activities like over use of forest, land and hunting wild animals have highly been increased. People use forest area for cultivation and pasture. Even they use the slope and steep land for farming. Such activities are degrading the natural condition of the environment inviting further environmental crisis.
