Port ball is also played like basketball, the objective of it is to score a goal into the basket. This note briefly describes port ball game.

Port ball is also played like basketball. The objective of it is to score a goal into the basket. Posts and blackboards are necessary to hang the basket. Many schools may have difficulty in providing this facility. For this reason, we will practice port ball.

Methods for playing port ball

In port ball, there are 6 people in a team and among them one from each team stands on a chair at the goal area that is kept in the middle of the end line. Only 5 players will be actively playing. The game starts with a jump ball between a player each from the teams. Whoever can jump higher and reach the ball will tap it with fingertips and pass the ball to his teammate. If any team is able to pass the ball to his friend who is standing on a chair that team gets 1 point. The game is played for 5 minute each half and whichever team score more point that team wins.

General rules of port ball

  1. The court is decided by a toss of a coin or lottery.
  2. The game starts with a jump ball.
  3. If the team is able to pass the ball to their friend that is standing on the chair then they score one point. If the person on the chair falls down from the chair unable to catch the ball properly then points are not scored.
  4. Once the points is scored then the ball is passed from behind the end line by defending the team to resume the game.
  5. A player is not allowed to walk with the ball (travelling) or keep on holding on to it.
  6. It is not allowed to catch, pull, or push the opponent.
  7. It is not allowed to dribble the ball with two hand and the held ball after dribbling once the second dribbling is not allowed.
  8. If a foul or violation is committed then the restart takes place from the nearest sideline by opposing team.
  9. The ball should not be sent out of the court. If any part of the body, with the ball possession, comes in contact with the area outside the playing area then it is considered to be the ball being out.(line-violation)
  10. At such situation, the game resumes from the spot where the opponent had stepped out from.
  11. No one is allowed to enter the goal area.
  12. With the permission of the referee, the person standing on the chair could be substituted.
