Overview

Our country is divided into 14 zones and 75 districts . It is divided so to carry out the overall development of a country which is a responsibility of District Development Committee (DDC) of a district. Districts are further divided into small illakas to carry out development work smoothly and effectively. There may be 9 to 13 illakas in each district, which is also known as VDCs and municipalities of a district.

How is district development committee formed?

The DDC are formed by following members:

  1. Elected members from each illaka.
  2. The president and vice president elected by chairpersons of each VDCs, municipalities or Illaka members.
  3. The members of parliament who represents the legislature in the parliament as an ex-office members of DDC.
  4. Two members with one female member elected from District Council, the member thus elected for DDC will have the tenure of five years.

Similarly, there is also a body in the District Development Committee called District Council. It forms plans and policies of the DDC.

Formation of District Council

  1. All the chairperson and the vice-chairperson of each VDC.
  2. Mayors and Deputy Mayors of the municipalities of that district.
  3. All the members of DDC
  4. All the members of parliament of the concerned districts are its en-office members.
  5. Six members nominated by the District Council including at least a women from among the social workers economically and socially disadvantages class under - privileged caste and indigenous people who meet the required qualifications. The tenure of members of District Development Committee is for 5 years. The meeting is held once a year.
