Meaning of Telemarketing

Telemarketing can be defined as the use of telephone call, centres to attract prospects, sell to existing customers and provide service by taking orders and answering questions. This method of marketing is being practised in big cities of Nepal for selling special types of products.Under this method of marketing, marketers contact directly to the consumers by phone. Telemarketing activities are performed from company office, from a call centre or from home.

Firstly, prospective customers are identified by various means including past purchase history, previous requests for information, application form etc. Next, customers are qualified and determined which customers are most likely to purchase the product or service offered by business organizations. An effective telemarketing process often involves two or more calls. The first call determines the customers need and the final call motivates the customers to make purchase.

Telemarketing method used for marketing goods and services is the most effective means. It is an effective means for communicating the customers.It is used mainly to contact with the consumer. Since, there is the least chance of ignoring the telephone calls it is called most effective means.

Televised marketing can create new customers for the product through well designed and more effective marketing method. Creation of new customers can increase revenue of businessman. Creation of new customer helps to increase the employment level too.

  • Mass people get information:

With the help of telemarketing people can get lot of information about the things that they wanted.Under this method of marketing mass people get information about products or services. Specific person cannot be selected for selling goods or services like in telemarketing.

Problems of Televised and Telemarketing in Nepal

Both televised and telemarketing are the components of direct marketing. These methods of marketing are gaining popularity in Nepal. Still, they are limited to the big cities of Nepal like Kathmandu, pokhara, etc. In our country Nepal generally telemarketing is used for seling special types of products like water filter, refrigerator, washing machine, etc.

Though, both telemarketing and televised marketing are being used for selling directly to the customers but they are still at premature stage. Both marketing activities are facing following problems in Nepal.

  • Lack of knowledge:

Lack of knowledge about telemarketing is one of the great problem in Nepal. Most of the people of Nepal do not know about telemarketing and televised marketing. They do not want to use those means for buying required goods. The are unknown about how to use it.

  • Lack of means:

Telemarketing and televised marketing need telephone and TV facilities. These facilities are not easily found in every part of the country.It is also lacking.

  • Poverty:

Poverty is one of the great problem in Nepal. Most of the Nepalese people lie below the poverty line. They are unable to purchase internet, telephone facilities and TV. So it is affecting the development of televised marketing.

  • Lack of banking service:

Banking or money transfer facilities are essential for televised and telemarketing. They are not widely available in remote and rural areas which affect the development of telemarketing.

  • Lack of belief:

Lack of belief is also the problem in televised and telemarekting.Televised and telemarketing are in its initial stage. So, people of Nepal do not easily believe to those means ,they doubt on the quality of the products and the service provided.

  • Expensive:

In comparison to developed countries telephone and internet facilities are more expensive in Nepal. So, most of the people cannot afford it which hinders the development of the telemarketing.

Prospects of Televised and Telemarketing in Nepal

Nepal has also the prospects to use Televised and Telemarketing.The prospects of them can be briefly shown below:

  • Expansion:

There must be expansion of televised and telemarketing in Nepal.Nepalese people are being aware about the importance of internet. They are using telephone facilities. In this situation, there may increase the use of telemarketing and televised marketing facilities for buying goods and services.

  • Help in fulfilling needs:

Televised and telemarketing are very helpful to the people.Most of the population of Nepal live in the village. People of the village want to use various products at their own place. These marketing methods may be helpful to provide such facilities.

  • Encourage:

Encouragement is very essential for developing televised and telemarketing.Gradually, banks having modern computerized system are being established. Such banks provide money transfer and money collection facilities. Such facilities may encourage telemarketing and televised marketing.

Concept of Network Marketing

Network marketing is the new concept of expanding market of the product rapidly. It utilizes independent representatives to reach potential customers that a company otherwise would not reach with traditional online or offline marketing methods. Network marketing is also known as multi- levelled marketing.It is direct selling method. In this independent agents serve as distributors of goods and services. They are encouraged to build and manage their own sales force by recruiting and training other independent agents. Network marketing is a business model. It is based on a company distributing products and services through a network of independent contractors.
