When Yudhisthir lost everything in the game of dice that he played with the evil-minded Shakuni, the cruel Duryodhana stipulated that the Pandavas should spend twelve years in the forest and one more year unrecognized before he could give back their part of the kingdom.
The year that the Pandavas princes spent in the forests was a mixture of joys, trials, and tribulations. What kept up their spirit through all their difficulties was the divine grace of Lord Krishna who rushed to their help in moments of distress. They took comfort in the thought that he was always by their side.
One day Bhima was preparing hot water. He had placed a huge pot of water on the oven and lighted the firewood. When he came back after some time, he was surprised to find the water as cold as it was when he filled the pot. Thinking that the heat was not enough, he threw some more logs into the oven and went away to attend other duty. However, when he returned, he was surprised to note that the water had not heated up at all though there was continuous fire.
This was a strange occurrence for which there appeared to be no logical reason and the solution was clearly beyond human understanding. The perplexed brothers had no other option but to appeal to their friend, Lord Krishna. In answer to their prayer, he appeared before them in a moment and was posted with the problem on hand. With a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, he asked Bhima to pour out the water from the pot. As Bhima emptied it, to their utter astonishment, a small frog jumped from the bottom of the pot.
