Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC)

Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) is established in the year 1952 (2009 B.S.) which is the first chamber of commerce in Nepal. It has ore than 1600 ordinary members and more than 8000 registered firms. It is located in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The NCC takes an active part in the business promotion and formulation of commercial, industrial and fiscal policies of Nepal Government.

Formation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce

NCC is formed by its members. There are four members in NCC. They are life members, ordinary members, affiliated members and honorary members. Any firm, company, corporation, and organization engaged in trade, industry or related profession is eligible to receive NCC membership.

Organization of Nepal Chamber of Commerce

NCC is organized in General Assembly, Executive Committee and Committees, Cells and a Secretariat.

  1. General Assembly/ Meeting: All its members constitute General Meeting which is the apex policy making a body of NCC. The general Assembly/Meeting is held annually to discuss and pass resolutions during which vacant seats of executive committee, if any, are also fulfilled. The progress report and audit report are also submitted to the General Meeting for necessary comments and approval.

  2. Executive Committee: The activities of NCC are planned, programmed and carried out by the executive committee comprising of 36 members, out of which 29 are elected by the general assembly. Rest 4 members are nominated from among the affiliated members, 1 from general members and the 1 is nominated by the NCC president. The President, first and second Vice-presidents, Secretary General, Treasurer, Secretaries and Joint Treasurer are elected from among the elected members of the Executive Committee.

  3. Committees Convened by NCC President: The President convenes a number of committees to perform his roles and responsibilities as the president is the executive ehead of NCC. The following are the committees:
    Advisory Committee
    Consultative Committee
    Nepal Chamber Foundation
    District Coordination Council.

  4. Employer's Council Cell: There is an Employer council constitution under the Chairmanship of the NCC's 2nd Vice-president. It looks after the industrial relations and employers' sector within the Kathmandu valley.

  5. Economic Diplomacy Cell: An Economic Diplomacy Cell has been constituted under the coordination of the NCC's 2nd President to promote tourism, export, foreign employment, hydro-power and foreign direct investment through the Nepalese Diplomatic Missions aboard.

  6. Committees at NCC: The NCC has constituted 22 different committees to effectively and efficiently perform its activities. These committee includes Employment Council and HRD, Export Promotion, Environment Conservation, SAARC Trade, Information and Communication and so on.

Function of NCC

  • To maintain good and smooth relationship and unity among the trading community and industrialists.
  • To maintain links with international business committees all around the world.
  • To organizes trade and industrial fairs, and to co-operate and facilitate the Nepalese participants in such fairs.
  • It issues Certificate of Origin for the Nepalese products.
  • It establishes or encourages to establish academic institution regarding trade, commerce and industries.
  • To conduct programs, seminar, training, workshop and research programs.
