Human beings get birth , grows because old and dies. They need to pass different stages in the journey is called life. The change in the stage of the life in biological, mental, and social occurs in every people. Whereas the people who are across over sixty years is called as old age. Ageing is one important part of all the human beings. The world is changeable. All the living creatures get old with time along with its appropriate time. Handbook of the Biology of Ageing on 2066 had defined, "ageing as the process of system's deterioration with time ."

natural process which should be faced by every person. In the earth every living thing becomes old. when people become old then they become mentally, physically and socio-economically weaker. They cannot do the work properly which they used to do before. Due to old age, old people they suffer from different kind of disease like hypertension, diabetes etc. Old people they cannot do their work by themselves. They need the help of other people to do the work.

Causes of Ageing

  • Diminished immunity
  • Poor nutrition
  • Increase in mental tension
  • Decrease in physical strength
  • Frequent attack of disease

Signs of Ageing

Physical Changes

  • Old people they will loss of hearing
  • Weakness and tiredness
  • Loss of sexual potency
  • Loss of appetite
  • Teste buds become less sensation
  • poor eyesight

Mental Changes

  • Decrease in problem-solving
  • Decrease in decision-making
  • Increase in spiritual activities
  • Decrease in memory power

Emotional Changes

  • Less interest in everything
  • Recall of the old memories
  • Tears and anger come very soon

Economic Changes

  • Inadequate sources of income
  • Dependent life

Social Changes

  • Feeling of loneliness increase .
  • Increase of sharing feelings with the same age people increase

When people they become old they began to suffer from many kinds of diseases. The old people they become mentally and physically weaker

The old people who used do work done on yesterday cannot be done today. The various kind of problem may found in them like the heart, lungs, asthma, diabetes and other diseases which are related to bone. Not only this old person they may suffer from eyes, ear, skin, urine pipe and other parts of the body become very weak .

Also, they slowly depend on other in every day. Old people, they feel very alone at that time so, in that condition friendship, goodness, love and affection towards them. In our country, Nepal, if the people they are above or at the age of 60 then they are said to be old age people. There is some problem of ageing:

  • Loss of immunity power
  • Dependent life
  • Loneliness
  • Unable to carry on occupation
  • Eyes , ears, urethra and organs become weaker

Caring for Old People

Old people are like the baby at the old age. In the concept of Nepal if the people became the age 60 or above the age of 60 then they are said to be old age people. Care of old people means it gives them love, affection, care, respect etc. Old age is not a problem its self. It is the stage of life wich every people they should face one time.

Today world is the modern world . Due to modern world people or the modern society old age people are becoming alone due to the busy timetable of people. People didn't get time to take care of their old age parents. Due to less care of the elderly people, they became very dirty and sick also. So to make or to take of them we should manage proper time for them and we should take proper care of them also. There are some important points of taking care of them are given below:

  • Keep them free of mental tension.
  • We should respect them .
  • Not allow doing hard work
  • Not allow getting too much tired
  • No madison should be given without the advice of the doctor
  • Keep them away from noise, smoking etc.
  • There should be well managed elderly homes from them.

Important of Elderly People ( Senior Citizens )

Old people are the creature of the world or the society. They are the main part of the world. Every old people are the basis of the life. They are our history. They make us stand in this world. Older people they guide us from their experiences. Following are the important people which are maintained below:

  • In a family, if there are small children they will get proper care support from them.
  • They are our history so they know about our history.
  • They can guide us to do work more nicely.
  • They can transfer knowledge , skills , which is related to socio-culture norms and value to the new generation .

Social Security

The social security is to give security to the society . The concept of the social security was first time introduced by the UK in 16 the century. This concept was slowly practised in USA, Canada and in some other country also in the 17th century. Social security always works for the welfare of the people who live in the society .It helps to manage good income sources to the people. help to minimised the future risk of the people. It works in the field of living of those people who are physical. There are some activities which come under social security:

  • Income distribution to the poor people also come under social security.

Social Security related Programmes in Nepal

  • Social Security Grant: Our government of Nepal has been launching programs from 2052.It was 100 at the beginning whereas now it is 1000 which is the increase from year2072\73 BS.
  • Direct Social Security Programme: The society should give free facilities to old people . The facility like free treatment is the example of the direct social security programme .
  • Food Support Programme: The food which gives energy to the old people should be provided to them. Instance, Food for Work, School Nutrition Programme and Day Meal Programme are some example of food support programme.
