Note on Cytoplasm

  • Note
  • Things to remember

It is jelly-like semi-fluid or ground substance which is differentiated in two parts;

  • Cytoplasmic matrix
  • Cytoplasmic structure

Cytoplasmic matrix

It is clear, colorless fluid which is also known as hyaloplasm or cytosol. It contains different kinds of inorganic and organic chemical compounds like water, minerals, sugar, amino acids, RNA, nucleotides etc. Nucleotides are the monomers of nucleic acid like DNA and RNA.

Cytoplasmic structure

These are the definite structure of cytoplasm which are differentiated into two types;

  • Cell organelles
  • Cell inclusions

Cell organelles

Cell organelles are living subcellular structure which have definite structure and function. They are also called protoplasmic bodies. Eg; ER, Golgi body, mitochondria, ribosome, plastid, vacuoles and nucleus etc.

Cell inclusions

They are a non-living structure of cytoplasm which mainly includes reserve food, crystals(plant cell), secretory and excretory substances.
