Sughauli Sandhi is the agreement to end the war between Nepal and East India Company. Nepal has to lose her almost half of her territory due to this treaty done between Nepal and East India Company held on December 2, 1815 AD. After this treaty, National integrity of Nepal was lost and unification campaign was stopped and conspiracy in politics was started in durbar. After the treaty, the time until 1903 BS was the time of political instability in Nepal. The following are the reasons for the political instability at that time: -

  1. There was dispute within the royal family as they supported different leagues
  2. The weak nature of the king
  3. The clash among the queens
  4. The nature of British to interfere in the politics of Nepal

  1. The regime of Rana Jung Pandey: - After the downfall of Bhimsen Thapa, Rana Jung Pandey became the prime minister of Nepal. For the regime of Rana Jung Pandey, there was the hand of the older queen of King Rajendra.
  2. Clearance of poison case against Bhimsen Thapa: - After the resignation of Rana Jung Pandey, the poison case of Bhimsen Thapa was cleared and was freed from jail under the approval of Ranga Nath Poudel. He went to his ancient residence, Borlang Gorkha, as he did not get any jobs or responsibilities.
  3. Reversal of poison case against Bhimsen Thapa: - During the regime of Chautariya Puskar Shah, Rana Jung Pandey again jailed Bhimsen Thapa by reversing the poison case. Rana Jung Pandey collected and showed the fake evidence to prove the poison case.
  4. Army Ku: - When Rana Jung Pandey became the prime minister of Nepal for the second time in 1897 BS, some soldiers who did not get their salary for 2 years became enthusiastic and got assembled in Tudhikhel and also circumscribed around the British Residency. They even broke down the houses of Puskar Shah and Ranga Nath Poudel. The number of those soldiers was about six thousand. Such arrogance transformed into peace when King Rajendra announced that the salary of the soldiers won’t be deducted. This is called army ku in the Nepalese history.
  5. The Increase in power Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah: - After the downfall of King Rana Jung Pandey, Queen Indra Kumar also died. The younger queen, Queen Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah took all the powers after the death of Queen Indra Kumar.
  6. Dominance of Fatte Jung to Gagan Singh: - Fatte Jung Shah, who was staying in Banaras of India, was called in Kathmandu of Nepal and made the prime minister of Nepal after the death of Mathabar Singh on Jestha 4, 1902. Gagan Singh Thapa was the right hand of Queen Rajya Laxmi during his regime. In this way, Jung Bahadur Rana deceived the political instability of Nepal and there was the rise of Rana Regime.
