Relation of Health and Environment

There is an inseparable bond between health and the environment. Humans depend on the environment for their survival. Nature or the environment provides all resources required for mankind. Therefore, the environment should be kept clean and healthy to keep us healthy. A good environment gives us longevity. People living in better environmental conditions have higher life expectancy than those living in a polluted environment. If the environment is polluted, it causes various types of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Environmental balance is a must for the growth and development of human race.
Environment consists of two major components:
  1. Biotic components: Living beings (plants and animals)
  2. Abiotic components: Non-living components like air, water, soil, light, etc.

Clean environment makes our life easier and effective at the same time promotes longevity. On the other hand, the polluted and imbalanced environment negatively affects our health. As a result, diseases get spread.

Diseases that spread from contaminated water and its ways

Water is essential for humans to run daily activities like personal cleaning, cleaning of the house, cooking and drinking. If the level of water decreases in our body, then our body cells will shrink and die. Sources of water are polluted in various ways. The major cause for such pollution is humans. When our drinking water gets contaminated, it invites many diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery and typhoid.

Ways of controlling water borne diseases:

  • Drink water only after it is purified such as boiling, filtering etc.
  • Water source should be kept clean,
  • Grazing of animals and throwing of garbage around the water sources should not be done,
  • Use of toilet properly,
  • Eating foods only after its washed.
